Endoscopic Vein Harvesting
Endoscopic vein harvest is the term used for an advance in the leg surgery associated with coronary artery bypass surgery and leg bypass surgery. The saphenous vein in the thigh and/or the lower leg can now be removed using a video camera and special instruments in a much less invasive way. A 1" incision is made just above the knee and a lighted camera is used to visualize and help remove the vein. The procedure takes about 20 minutes and is performed simultaneously with the main operation by our experienced Physician Assistants. CVT Surgical Center has done over 5,000 EVH procedures since 1998. The EVH advance has resulted in a dramatic decrease in leg pain and infection and the patient can walk the day after surgery without leg complaints.
